# Getting your API Key

Login to [cowork.youverify.co](https://cowork.youverify.co/), at the top right-hand corner, click on the name, and then click on **Account Settings**, as shown below;

When in Account Settings, click on “**API/Webhooks**”, and then click on “Create new API key”

This brings a pop-up where the API key will be created.

Here, you will be required to fill in the name and description section, and then check box all the permissions required for the key.

After this, Click on "Create API Key" button

***NOTE***: The environment can be either Test or Live. The API key created in the ***test portal*** will only work in the Sandbox environment, while the API key created in the ***live Portal*** will work in the Production environment. Fully onboarded businesses can toggle from Test to Live and Vice Versa. You can know which Portal environment you are in, by checking the bottom left of the portal page as shown below;
