# Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA)

> Add a one-time code from an authenticator app to your Cowork login.

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a one-time code from an authenticator app each time you sign in to Cowork, on top of your password.

An admin can also require 2FA for every user in the organisation. When that is on, each user is asked to set up 2FA and can't skip it.

## Turn on 2FA

**1. Open Account Settings**

Sign in to Cowork. Click your **Profile icon**, then select **Account Settings**.

**2. Open System Settings**

Click **System Settings**.

**3. Enable 2FA for login**

Turn on the toggle to enable 2FA for login, then click **Activate 2FA**.

**4. Link your authenticator app**

Scan the QR code shown on screen with your authenticator app. If you can't scan it, enter the setup key in the app instead.

**5. Confirm with a one-time code**

Enter the one-time code from your authenticator app in Cowork to finish enrolment.

**6. Store your recovery codes**

If Cowork shows recovery codes, store them somewhere safe. You may need them if you lose access to your authenticator app.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Only enter the setup key in your authenticator app. Never share it, or your one-time codes, with anyone.
