To prevent run-off calls, which are billable, Youverify applies a rate limit to repeated identical requests on Enterprise accounts.

The rule

If the same call is made more than 3 times within 1 minute, further attempts are blocked and you cannot make that call for 10 minutes.

What counts as the same call

Two calls are the same when they carry the same payload, which in practice means they are made with the same ID. Calls with a different ID or payload are counted separately.

Why this exists

Repeated identical calls usually come from retry loops, duplicated jobs or integration bugs. Each call is billable, so the limit stops these run-off calls from accumulating charges.

What happens when you are blocked

A blocked call returns 429 Too Many Requests. The 10-minute block starts when the limit is hit. The timer does not restart if you keep calling during the block, so the block ends 10 minutes after it began.
Retrying a blocked call immediately does not shorten the block and is not needed. Wait for the block to end, then retry once.
  • Store the result of a verification and reuse it instead of calling again with the same ID.
  • Do not retry in a tight loop. When you receive a 429, stop and wait.
  • Use Test Data in the sandbox so that testing does not trigger the limit.
  • See Errors for how to handle other error responses.
